DHL Air UK, one of DHL's cargo airlines headquartered in the UK, is on its maiden flight to Asia. The new route (Hong Kong-Nagoya/Central-Cincinnati-East Midlands, UK) is the first in a series of improvements to intercontinental flights between Europe, the US and Asia.

The new route, operated by DHL Air UK, begins on 26 June with Boeing B777Fs. It was added in response to the growing demand for international shipping between Japan and the United States.

The dedicated B777F, which DHL will operate three times a week, will increase its frequency to one service every Saturday from September 6. The route also offers up to 102 tonnes of additional capacity per flight, DHL Express said.

It will serve transpacific customers along with Polar Air Cargo Worldwide's current five-week B747F flights and Kalitt Air's five-week B777F flights.

Tony Khan, President and Representative Director of DHL Express Japan, said: "The capacity expansion is in response to strong growth in international shipping demand from customers who trade between Asia and the US, especially on the route between Japan and the US.

The addition of this new route allows us to support the business development of Japanese customers in the United States, while giving us the opportunity to connect customers from the United States to Japan.

Japan international airport said: DHL Air's new service is very welcome, which will meet the expectations of companies in the central region with stable shipping demand in North America. They will continue to provide the greatest support for DHL Express to expand its business at Chubu Centrair International Airport, making the airport even more convenient for our customers. "
