Opportunities for air cargo development, but also uncertainties

Published by February 24,2020

In recent years, civil aviation authorities and local governments have paid more and more attention to the development of air cargo, and the overall capacity of the air cargo supply chain has been greatly improved. In 2019, cargo airlines in Mainland China continued to introduce freighter capacity, with 174 freighters, and freighters will continue to increase in 2020. In order to cope with the changing market situation, air cargo companies have gradually formed a relatively complete response mechanism and have stronger anti-risk capabilities. Airports in many places have upgraded hardware facilities, increased support equipment, shortened business processes, improved operational efficiency, improved customs clearance environment, and developed multimodal transport.

In 020, the air cargo market was still full of risks, including the US elections, Brexit, tensions in the Middle East and other regions, and possible negative effects of changes in jet fuel prices.

Due to uncertainties, both IATA and the Civil Aviation Administration of China are cautiously optimistic about the development of air cargo in 2020. IATA expects global air cargo traffic to reach 62.4 million tons in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 2%. The Civil Aviation Administration of China predicts that in 2020 China's civil aviation cargo and mail traffic will reach 7.63 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.3%.
