Container throughput of GZ port ranks among top 5 ports in the world in 2019

On December 26, at the regular press conference of the Guangzhou Municipal Government, Yuan Yue, deputy director of the Guangzhou Port Authority, revealed that the annual container throughput of Guangzhou Port will exceed 23 million TEUs, and the cargo throughput and container throughput will continue. It ranks among the top five ports in the world.

Data show that from January to November 2019, the production of Guangzhou Port maintained steady growth. There were 47,922 ships arriving at the port, an increase of 9.3% year-on-year, of which 2,651 were ships of 100,000 tonnage and above, an increase of 17.3%;

The cargo throughput was 573.1321 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 11.4%;

The container throughput was 21,178,300 TEUs, an increase of 5.83% year-on-year, of which the domestic trade container was 13,19,633,000 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 3.05%;

7.982 million TEUs of foreign trade containers were completed, a year-on-year increase of 10.77%. In September this year, the container throughput hit a record high in a single month, with 2.03 million TEUs completed; the number of containers in the “Belt and Road” direction increased by double-digits.

In the 2020 work plan, the infrastructure construction of key shipping hubs such as the Guangzhou Port Deepwater Channel Widening Project, Nansha Port Railway, Nansha Port Area Phase 4, and Xinsha Port Area Phase 2, has become one of the key tasks of Guangzhou Port Authority.
